BLÖNDUÓS 2015

[ezcol_1half]The 4th round in the Icelandic Championship was held in Blönduós the 11th of July 2015 by the Formula Offroad Club (Torfæruklúbbur Suðurlands), and had they orginized a spectacular day for both team members and audience. The 18 cars that were listed all showed up and got through the inspection that morning and were ready to race. The competiton itself started briefly at 13:00 and ended 17:30.

[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]The tracks were challenging and very technical courses so the more experienced you were the better chance you had of going though all gates without any penalty. TKS tried something new this year by putting the time course at the beginning and the same one in the end so the drivers would get their blood pumped right at the beginning of they day and could beat their own time later that day. [/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]In the UNLIMITED CLASS were registered 11 cars, yet Snorri Þór Árnason managed to snatch the 1st place yet again by his excellent driving on the ChoirBoy (Kórdrengurinn) for he scored 1900 total. The runner up, only 265 points behind Snorri was Haukur Viðar Einarsson on the Tazmanian Devil with the total of 1635 points. He showed quite the improvement this Saturday, the car is finally working properly after few hickups in previous competitions and he showed the rest what it can do. In 3rd place was Guðlaugur Sindri Helgason on Galdragulur with 1599 points. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]In the MODIFIED CLASS were 3 cars racing this round. With 1396 points Henning Ólafsson the rally driver managed beat the other two in his class driving the Pumba Hlunkurinn. It was quite the achievement for it was his first Offroad race. Only 111 póints behind him was Jón Vilberg Gunnarsson on the Kid (Snáðinn) with the total of 1285 points. Following them was Aron Ingi Svansson on the Zombie with 1165 points. [/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]STREET LEGAL CLASS were 4 competitors this time around yet papa smurf managed to beat the younger racers this time. Steingrímur Bjarnason on The Smurf (Strumpurinn) scored 1810 points total and managed to beat Ívar Guðmundsson on The Devil (Kölski) by only 52 points. 3rd place was The Bachelor (Pjakkurinn) Eðvald Orri Guðmundsson with the score 1275 at the end of the day. The day didn’t start very well for Eðvald Orri because in his first time track he drove out of the course and started the race many points behind the rest.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]He was so eager to climb up the scoreboard that he forgot to focus on the track and ended upside down which cost him a lot of points. Despite the dust filled air, the competitors showed the audience many stunts such as safes, jumps, rollovers and driving on only two wheels. But the BEST IN SHOW trophies went to Snorri Þór Árnason in UNLIMITED CLASS, Jón Vilberg Gunnarsson in MODIFIED CLASSand Ívar Guðmundsson in STREET LEGAL CLASS.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]OVERALL it was an eventful day for all. Þór Þormar had some engine problems on Spiderman and didn’t get the chance to participate in all tracks that day. Ingólfur Guðvarðarson on Guttinn Reborn began the day quite well but then the car started to act up and unfortunately didn’t finish the race,[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]yet no one really ended up with their cars in pieces after the day which is a very good sign.  Hopefully we’ll see all cars on Akureyri for the 5th and 6th round in the Icelandic Championship which will be the 8th – 9th August.[/ezcol_1half_end]
